Treasure Cay Anchorage

Resort-town convenience meets turquoise cruising waters, with one of the world's most beautiful beaches just steps from the marina.

Treasure Cay offers cruising sailors a rare combination in the Out Islands: full-service marina facilities, excellent provisioning, and one of the most stunning beaches in the Caribbean, all at a protected anchorage on the Sea of Abaco. While the resort development gives Treasure Cay a more manicured feel than remote cays, it serves as an ideal provisioning stop and comfortable base for exploring the Northern Abacos.

The anchorage lies in the lee of the developed peninsula, with mooring balls and marina slips available. The famous three-mile crescent of powder-white sand known simply as Treasure Cay Beach consistently ranks among the world's best, and it's an easy walk from the marina through the resort grounds.

Approach and Entrance

Treasure Cay is located on the main island of Great Abaco, approximately 25 miles northwest of Marsh Harbour. The approach from the Sea of Abaco is straightforward in good visibility, with adequate depth for most cruising vessels throughout the approach.

The marina and mooring field lie within the protected basin formed by the resort peninsula. Enter from the northwest, following the marked channel into the harbour. Controlling depth in the channel is approximately six feet at mean low water, with deeper water inside. The Treasure Cay Marina monitors VHF Channel 16 for arriving vessels.

Holding and Protection

The anchorage and mooring field offer good protection from prevailing easterly winds. The basin is sheltered by the peninsula to the east and offers comfortable conditions in most weather. However, strong westerly or northwesterly winds can create uncomfortable conditions with limited fetch protection from those directions.

Treasure Cay Marina maintains approximately 30 mooring balls in addition to their slip dockage. Since Hurricane Dorian, some mooring balls have not been re-inspected, so cruisers should use caution and inspect tackle before relying on any ball. Marina staff can advise on current mooring status. Anchoring room is limited; most visitors use either moorings or marina slips.

What's Ashore

Treasure Cay Marina offers full services including fuel, water, electricity, pump-out, and ice. The marina complex includes a pool and restaurant open to visiting boaters. Provisioning is excellent by Out Island standards, with a well-stocked grocery store, liquor store, and various shops within the resort.

The headline attraction is Treasure Cay Beach, a three-and-a-half-mile arc of powder-white sand consistently rated among the world's top beaches. The walk from the marina takes about fifteen minutes through the resort grounds. Coco Beach Bar serves drinks and casual fare right on the sand, making for a perfect afternoon after a morning passage.
