Things to Do in Small Hope Bay, Andros
Small Hope Bay Lodge has anchored Andros Island diving for over 60 years, introducing thousands of visitors to the third-largest barrier reef in the world. This pioneering all-inclusive resort remains Andros's only dive operation, offering intimate access to more than 60 dive sites just minutes from shore.
Beyond diving, the lodge embraces an unplugged philosophy where kayaks, paddleboards, and bicycles replace televisions and phones. The barrier reef begins directly offshore, dropping into the 6,000-foot depths of the Tongue of the Ocean. Blue holes, cavern systems, and pristine coral gardens await divers and snorkelers, while bonefishing flats attract serious anglers. This is the Bahamas at its most authentic.
Barrier Reef Wall Diving
DivingThe Andros Barrier Reef stretches 124 miles, and Small Hope Bay provides direct access to its most spectacular sections. Wall dives begin at 40-70 feet before plunging thousands of feet into the Tongue of the Ocean. Visibility regularly exceeds 100 feet, revealing abundant marine life along the drop-off.
Tip: Request the wall dive orientation on your first day to understand the unique topography.
Cavern Diving at Diana's Dungeons
DivingThis signature cavern dive features wide, well-illuminated coral passageways decorated with elegant soft corals. False wall formations create dramatic swim-throughs. The site suits intermediate divers comfortable in overhead environments, with natural light throughout.
Tip: Bring a dive light to appreciate the coral colors in the cavern.
Blue Hole Diving

The unique ecosystems harbor species found nowhere else, and the crystal-clear water creates an ethereal diving experience.

Discover Scuba Program
DivingNon-divers can experience the reef through the lodge's complimentary Discover Scuba program. Instructors teach basics in shallow water right off the dock before taking guests to experience the reef. Full PADI and SSI certification courses are also available.
Tip: Book your certification before arrival to complete the course during your stay.
