White Point Anchorage
Secluded white sand spit on Great Guana Cay with pristine beaches, crystal waters, and that deserted island feeling.
White Point extends nearly half a nautical mile from the west side of Great Guana Cay, creating one of the most scenic and secluded anchorages in the southern Exumas. Accessible only by boat, this pristine spit delivers the deserted island experience that cruisers dream about.
Sweeping arcs of powdery white sand rim both sides of the point, with the north beach offering the longest stretch and clearest water. The crystal-clear shallows reveal every detail of the sandy bottom, while excellent holding provides security for overnight stays in settled conditions.
Anchorage and Conditions
White Point provides excellent protection from easterly through southeasterly winds that characterize the prevailing conditions. Holding is exceptional in soft white sand, with depths suitable for most cruising vessels in the lee of the point.
The anchorage works best in settled weather or when winds blow from the east or southeast, allowing the point to block wind and waves. With winds from other quadrants, the anchorage becomes exposed and should be used only as a day stop or avoided entirely.
The Beaches
Although the tip of White Point is rocky, moving inshore reveals sweeping crescents of powder-fine white sand on both the north and south sides. The north beach is longer and clearer of grass and weed, making it the preferred destination for swimming and beach time.
The warm, shallow waters are ideal for paddleboarding, swimming, and wading. Windsurfers appreciate the ability to launch in calm water while powerful winds sweep in from Exuma Sound across the exposed areas.
Access and Exploration
White Point is accessible only by boat, ensuring privacy and pristine conditions that settled beaches cannot match. Great Guana Cay's interior offers trails for exploration, though most visitors remain focused on the stunning waterfront.
Black Point Settlement lies just north along Great Guana Cay's western shore, providing restaurants, laundry, and a friendly Bahamian community when you need supplies or social interaction. The contrast between White Point's isolation and Black Point's hospitality captures the appeal of Exumas cruising.
Getting there
White Point lies on the west side of Great Guana Cay, approximately 2 nautical miles south of Black Point Settlement. Approach from the banks side with attention to the point's rocky tip. The anchorage is roughly 8 nm south of Staniel Cay. When winds blow from prevailing easterlies, the lee shores of Great Guana Cay provide numerous isolated anchorages; White Point is among the finest.
