About CU Sailing

The case for CU Sailing is simple arithmetic. She gives a group of twelve the same six doubles, four heads and flybridge as the newer flagship, Sapphire Seas, for about 12 percent less in every season of the 2026/27 booking year. That works out to $1,300 less for a week in early August and $3,000 less over Christmas and New Year. She was built in 2020 as a Lagoon 50, so she is four years older and a foot shorter, and for many groups that is a trade well worth making.

Most of a week in the Abacos is lived outdoors, and her deck plan reflects it. The aft cockpit is big enough for all twelve to eat together, the forward cockpit has a lounge for the hour before sunset, and up on the flybridge, along with the helm, there are sunpads and a patch of shade. Inside, the saloon spans the full beam with the galley on the same level, and the six cabins are split between the two hulls, so families can sort themselves by side.

For whoever is skippering, two details make a big boat easier to live with. Her headsail is a self-tacking jib, so going about needs nobody on the sheets, and her winches are electric, so hoisting and trimming the full-batten main does not take a team. Two 80 hp engines handle the calm days, and a chartplotter, autopilot and VHF cover navigation. A chart briefing on the Sea of Abaco comes with the Comfort Pack, which helps if these are new waters to you.

Comfort aboard matches the newer flagship almost item for item: air conditioning, a generator, a watermaker feeding a 219-gallon tank, Bluetooth audio in the saloon and cockpit, a cockpit grill and a freshwater deck shower. There is snorkel gear for everyone and a stand-up paddleboard. The Comfort Pack covers the dinghy and outboard, linen and towels, cruising and fishing permits, a welcome pack, end-of-charter cleaning and a damage deposit reduction waiver. Fuel and any optional extras are on you.

The trade-offs are honest ones. She is four years older than Sapphire Seas, and she draws 4.6 feet, slightly more, so the skinniest anchorages and harbour entrances call for an eye on the tide table. None of that gets in the way of the classic loop: Hope Town and Man-O-War about an hour from Marsh Harbour, Great Guana and Treasure Cay a morning's sail north, and Green Turtle Cay beyond the Whale Cay passage on a day when the Atlantic is calm enough to cross.

In the 2026/27 booking year her weekly rate runs from $9,425 (August 1–18) to $21,750 (December 24 to January 6), plus the mandatory Comfort Pack of $1,100 for the first week and $660 for each extra week. Those prices already contain the 10% Bahamian VAT; the 4% cruising tax comes in addition. The refundable security deposit is $2,000. Book her bareboat if your party includes a qualified skipper, or let us arrange a local skipper through Abaco Sail, which runs her from Conch Inn Marina.

Operated by Abaco Sail at Conch Inn Marina

All twelve Abaco Sail catamarans we list start and finish their charters at Conch Inn Marina in Marsh Harbour, the main town on Great Abaco. Abaco Sail's own dock team prepares each boat, hands her over at Slip 14 and takes her back at the end of your trip, and the sheltered water of the Sea of Abaco begins just outside the harbour.

FAQ

CU Sailing: common questions

How does CU Sailing differ from Sapphire Seas?

On paper they are close: six double cabins, twelve berths, four heads, a flybridge, a 26.6-foot beam and the same 219-gallon water and 275-gallon fuel tanks. Sapphire Seas is a 2024 Lagoon 51; CU Sailing is the 2020 Lagoon 50, with a self-tacking jib. CU Sailing costs about 12 percent less in every season, and the Comfort Pack ($1,100 for the first week) and the $2,000 deposit are the same on both.

What does a week on CU Sailing cost?

In the 2026/27 booking year (October 15, 2026 to October 14, 2027) her weekly rate runs from $9,425 in early August to $21,750 over Christmas and New Year, with late October at $10,875 and the prime winter weeks from March 1 to April 17 at $16,820. Add the mandatory Comfort Pack: $1,100, then $660 for each extra week. The 10% Bahamian VAT is included in those rates; the 4% cruising tax is not. Discounts of up to 15% may apply for repeat guests, bookings made six or more months ahead, and charters of two weeks or longer.

Is CU Sailing manageable for a bareboat skipper?

For an experienced skipper, yes, and a bareboat charter does require a qualified skipper in your party. Her self-tacking jib means tacking needs no sheet work, the electric winches take the effort out of hoisting and trimming, and twin 80 hp engines cover the calm days. If nobody aboard has the experience for a 50-foot catamaran, Abaco Sail can provide a local skipper; ask us about the fee for your dates.

How much water does CU Sailing draw?

4.6 feet, a little more than Sapphire Seas at 4.5 feet and the Lagoon 46s at 4.3. That works across the Sea of Abaco, but the shallowest anchorages and a few entrances, Little Harbour's in particular, should be approached near high tide. The chart briefing included in the Comfort Pack walks you through the spots that matter before you leave Conch Inn Marina.

Will twelve people be comfortable aboard CU Sailing?

She is registered for twelve passengers and has twelve berths in six double cabins, so twelve aboard is within both her papers and her berths. The aft cockpit seats everyone for meals, the forward cockpit and flybridge give people somewhere else to be, and the saloon spans the full beam. With four heads for six cabins, some cabins share, so plan the berths with that in mind.
