About Indie Vortex

Built in 2019, Indie Vortex is a Lagoon 40, and we would rather be clear about where she sits in the fleet. She is the oldest boat Abaco Sail runs, their only 40-foot Lagoon, and her weekly rates start below every other boat on the dock. If you want four private cabins for family or friends without paying for a newer or bigger catamaran, that is exactly the appeal. She sails from Conch Inn Marina in Marsh Harbour with the rest of the fleet.

Her layout is the four-cabin Lagoon 40: two double cabins in each hull, every one with a private head, and berths for eight. The galley is up on the main deck beside the saloon, open toward the cockpit, and wraparound windows keep the saloon bright. Her wheel is mounted on a raised platform aft on the starboard side, above the cockpit. Forward, the foredeck has room to stretch out once you are anchored, and on a 40-footer that is where much of the afternoon goes.

What does a 40-footer give up? Mostly room. Next to the 46-, 50- and 51-foot Lagoons in the fleet, her cabins, heads, saloon and deck space are all smaller, and eight adults with a week of luggage will fill her. Four to six people will have space to spread out; eight works for a group that is happy living close together and spends its days ashore and in the water. She is also five years older than the newest boats on the dock, and her rates reflect both points.

One more point before you book. Abaco Sail has not yet published her technical sheet or equipment list, so we do not list air conditioning, a generator, a watermaker or water toys for her here. Before you commit, we will check with Abaco Sail and tell you what she carries. The mandatory Comfort Pack is confirmed, and it covers the dinghy and outboard, your cruising and fishing permits, linen and towels, a chart briefing, a welcome pack, end-of-charter cleaning and a damage deposit reduction waiver.

Smaller boats suit the Abacos, because the passages inside the Sea of Abaco are short and mostly sheltered. A typical day is a couple of hours under sail, a swim stop and an anchorage before sundown. From Marsh Harbour, Hope Town and the sandbar at Tahiti Beach on Elbow Cay lie east across the water, Man-O-War and Great Guana Cay to the north-east, and Little Harbour, with Pete's Pub, is the run south. Stock up at Maxwell's in Marsh Harbour before you leave the dock.

Her 2026/27 weekly rates run from $4,015 (August 1–18) to $12,045 (December 24 – January 6), per boat, plus the mandatory Comfort Pack at $1,000 for the first week and $600 for each extra week. Bahamian VAT at 10% is included, and a 4% cruising tax is added. The refundable security deposit is $1,500, and the shortest charter is four nights, each billed at one-sixth of the weekly rate. Experienced sailors can take her bareboat, or we can arrange a local skipper through Abaco Sail.

All twelve Abaco Sail catamarans we list start and finish their charters at Conch Inn Marina in Marsh Harbour, the main town on Great Abaco. Abaco Sail's own dock team prepares each boat, hands her over at Slip 14 and takes her back at the end of your trip, and the sheltered water of the Sea of Abaco begins just outside the harbour.

FAQ

Indie Vortex: common questions

Why does Indie Vortex cost less than the other boats?

She is the oldest boat in the fleet, built in 2019, and one of its four 40-footers. You still get four double cabins and a private head for each. What you give up compared with the bigger boats in the fleet is room: smaller cabins, a smaller saloon and less deck space, which you notice most with eight aboard.

Does she have air conditioning, a generator and a watermaker?

Abaco Sail has not yet published her equipment list, so we do not list those items for her here. Before you book, we will find out from Abaco Sail what she has aboard, from water toys and electronics to air conditioning, a generator and a watermaker. The dinghy and outboard are confirmed, because they come with the mandatory Comfort Pack.

How many people can she take?

She sleeps eight, in four double cabins with four heads. For a full week we think she is roomier with four to six aboard, but eight works for a group that is comfortable sharing space and spends much of the day off the boat.

What does a week on Indie Vortex cost?

In the 2026/27 booking year, her weekly rate runs from $4,015 (August 1–18) to $12,045 (December 24 – January 6), per boat, and the mandatory Comfort Pack adds $1,000 for the first week and $600 for each extra week. Those rates include 10% Bahamian VAT, and a 4% cruising tax is added. Fuel and any optional extras are paid separately, and the refundable security deposit is $1,500.

How does she compare with the three Bali Catspaces?

All four are 40-foot catamarans in the Cruiser tier. Indie Vortex is a Lagoon rather than a Bali, two to four years older, and priced below them: from $4,015 a week, against $4,125 for Let's Geaux and $4,565 for Gabrielle Marie and Knot a Fantasea. Each of those rates includes 10% Bahamian VAT, and a 4% cruising tax is added. The Catspaces have published equipment lists; hers is still to come.
